Enjoying the taper?
Time to taper for the Virgin London Marathon
It's less than two weeks to go until the big day so you should be doing no more than 60% of your usual volume of training this week and it should be down to 40% next week. How is it going? How are you feeling?
There is an art to tapering and those who get it right will feel full of beans on the 25th April but tapering can make some feel somewhat lethargic as they cut down on the training. One solution to this may be to fill the time when you would normally be banging in the miles with other activity to keep your mind active. I suppose it's a bit like retirement - you may need to plan your time!
Good Luck to all of you that are running a week on Sunday. It would be good to evaluate afterwards and assess how successful the taper was. If it doesn't work the way you would like it to perhaps you could consider building in a practise taper week next year, maybe the week before a short race. You may need to train to taper!
