Happy St.David's Day!

"White Rabbits, White Rabbits, White Rabbits!" Did you remember to say it as soon as you woke up this morning? If you did you will be lucky all month because today is St. David's Day and that's a pretty special day for all who are Welsh.

Millenium Coastal Path

Millenium Coastal Path

To celebrate this special day I thought I'd have a look at the races available in Wales throughout March. If you love running and you love areas of outstanding natural beauty you should check these out!

6th March Llanelli Half Marathon

I am very jealous of anyone running at this event this Sunday. The event is held in the Millenium Coastal Park, which occupies 10 miles of coast line on the Burry Estuary. There is a coastal path for pedestrians and cyclist. The cycle path forms a link with the 186 mile long Celtic Trail, passing through, The Machynys Golf Course, Millennium Quays and the seafront promenade. If you want beautiful scenery this is a must!

19th March Rhayader Round the lakes 20 mile road race

The organisers of this race warn of inclement weather conditions as much of the area passes through an exposed, remote area. Runners are advised to take suitable protective clothing in case of bad weather. That's because it runs through the spectacular Elan Valley, along a mountain road (beware the hills!) and alongside the reservoirs which were built between 1892 and 1904 to supply Birmingham with water.

20th March Atlantic College 10K

I knew there had to be a castle in here somewhere! The venue for this 10K is Atlantic College whose home is St. Donat's Castle, that dates back to the 12th Century.

20th March St.Domenico 20 miles

If you choose to do this one you may think I've spun you a yarn about the scenery but you just have to hang on in there! It starts off with the industrial backdrop of the valleys but once you head out onto the Taff Trail towards Abercynon you'll have more beautiful scenery than you can throw a stick at!

27th March Richard Burton 10K

This is the only one out of all of the above that I have done! The race that takes place in Hollywood star, Richard Burton's home town, and was originally started to raise funds for families who had lost loved ones in a car crash. Two years later, Richard Burton gave his permission to use his name in the race titles. Richard sadly died some 6months later. His widow Sally gave her permission to use his name and from then she became president and sponsor over many years. The race organisers create a very friendly atmosphere. The course has a few challenging hills.

Ewch i Gymru ac yn mwynhau rhedeg!
