RACE PREVIEW
Brighton Half Marathon - Sunday 19th February 2012
Brooks supporting youth races
With public places for the Brighton Half Marathon sold out in November the organisers are pleased to welcome Brooks on board for its 1 mile Youth Races, aimed at young runners aged 8-10, 11-13 and 14-16 years.
A t-shirt design competition themed ‘Running by the sea’ which was launched in August attracted over 120 entries from kids and teenagers across Sussex. The panel faced a difficult task in choosing the winning design which is going to be printed on the t-shirts given to every Youth Race runner across all three age groups on race day.
The winner has been announced as 13 year old Samuel Blackwell from Hove, with his entry coming in through Blatchington Mill School. Apart from the huge recognition of talent by his design being on t-shirts worn by hundreds of young runners on race day Samuel also receives a pair of Brooks trainers and a £50 voucher for art equipment as a thank you for taking part.
Brooks are printing the winner’s design and supplying the t-shirts for the Youth races, showing their continuous support for youth running development.
Mike East, Marketing Manager at Brooks Sports quoted: `We at Brooks Sports are extremely proud to be involved with the Brighton Half Marathon and so with the addition of the Youth Races it does add another rewarding dimension to this well organised and purposeful event. As a running specialist brand, it is important to encourage the younger generation to take part in sport and what better way than the Youth races. The t-shirt designing competition fits perfectly with our Run Happy ethos. ´
Entry to the chip timed Youth Races closes on 3rd February 2012 (or if sold out) and the entry fee is £3 for affiliated or £4 for non-affiliated runners.
