RACE REPORT

Brooks, Serpentine New Years Day 10k - Sunday 1st January 2012

Runners see in the New Year in Hyde Park

Nearly 500 runners welcomed the New Year in the Brooks Serpentine New Years Day 10k, making a great start to 2012 in the city that will host this year's Olympic Games. The weather was mild but windy for this annual race.

Andrew Rayner (Blackheath & Bromley) led the field home in a time of 32:35 followed by Jacob Wiebel (Southampton) in 33:12 and Sam Humphrey (Victoria Park & Tower Hamlets) in 33:15.

It was a competitive race at the front of the ladies field. Rosalind Kieran (Herne Hill Harriers) set the pace in the early stages but was overhauled by Katie Good (Thames Valley/Manchester University) who paced the run well to finish tenth overall in 35:29. Katie, who is based in Lyon, France for this year, whilst she studies at the University there, was home for the holidays. Both her and Rosalind are quickly improving. Rosalind only allowed an eleven second gap and finished in 35:40.

Thanks go to the 100 marshalls who ensured the event ran smoothly.
