1.1 million miles logged!
By runbritain Reward Runners

We are pleased to announce that your Training Log on your Handicap Scoring Profile Page is fully functional once more. We had suspended this function in order to sort some tie breaks in Reward Running but it is up and running once more so you can record your training miles again.
Whilst we were looking at this function we took the opportunity to gather a few stats and are extremely proud to announce that as the runbritain Reward Running community we have logged 1.1 million miles between us!
Our Grand Prix winner, Phil Wicks, who has a handicap socre of MINUS 4.4 recorded the biggest mileage of 5190. Phil regularly runs 100 miles per week and occasionally goes to 120.
Next is Ben Fish . Ben has a handicap score of MINUS 3.2 and logged 4019 miles. Ben's highest mileage was 110 miles in a week but he also has some easy, recovery weeks. It looks like Ben 'chunks' his training into blocks. At the end of each block of work he puts in a recovery week. His lowest week was a week in August where he ran just 16 miles.
Our top marathoner Scott Overall keeps his miles to himself but claimed a respectable 500 points in Reward Running.
Carole Setchell (handicap 4.8) was the lady with the most miles at 3428. She regularly tops 80 miles per week.
Parners, Gerard Gallacher and Sarah Walen finished 1st and 2nd in Scotland and 19th and 20th overall and have logged more than 3844 miles between them
The Reward Running competition for 2012 will begin in March and will reward those who reduce their handicap score. The 2011 competition encouraged runners to earn rewards for several challenges:
2998 runners claimed the reward for registering
It would seem that the most difficult reward was that for leading a running group. Only 23 managed to claim this reward.
73 managed to log more than 2000 miles in training
388 logged more than 1000 miles in training
232 ran in a Grand Prix event
835 completed six parkruns
1065 ran in at least four UKA licensed races
546 used the runbritain online entry
867 set three personal best times
612 improved their handicap scores by more than 4 points
479 joined a running group
347 recommended a running group
1520 joined a running club
1052 raised at least £111 for charity
and Neil Williams, who has a handicap score of 11.6 did all of the above! Neil was the only one to achieve the maximum 2011 points in 2011.
We are almost ready to despatch180 pairs of Sennheiser’s superb CX 680i, CX 680, PMX 680i, PMX 680 & SX 680 headphones to our top Reward Runners and an adidas Mi-Coach system (RRP £120) to the top finisher in each nation and region of the UK. 2012 is promising to be a big year for running. It would appear that we're not the only ones breaking a few barriers. parkrun are hurtling towards the one million mark! They have more than 960,000 runs recorded since parkrun began. Last weekend was very busy - they broke through the 16,000 mark for one Saturday and Bushy Park in London saw 1000 runners on the start line!
Are you feeling enthusiastic for this Olympic Year? Have you started tracking your training for 2012? We have had some lovely feedback from the 2011 Reward Running Competition. Some of this is below:
I think this is why running is the biggest participation sport, it's so accessible, you are never to old and their are so many ways to get motivated. Can't wait 'til March and the start of a new runbritain challenge.
Well done everyone and thanks to runbritain for running a competition that I had a chance of winning. Here's looking forward to this years competition though I fear it could be a little more difficult to achieve the same result. But then all we can do is try our best and see where that gets us!
Thank you for your wonderful competition, we are both looking forward to the 2012 competition.
