The Isle of Wight Traverse

Overview: This is a point to point race. Luggage transfer will be provided. It's a hilly and scenic multi terrain race across the length of the island, mostly on bridleways but occasional road sections. The course will not be signed. A map will be provided to runners and you will be expected to navigate between checkpoints along the route.

  • Venue Facilities: start venue will be sailing club so you will have use of the toilets and changing rooms. tea and coffee provided before the start. please use the public car park next to the sailing club. finish area at the needles. nearby cafe and public toilets. good bus service. course: point to point, undulating, scenic. bags can be transferred from the start to the finish if you require. the course will not be signed. you will be given a map with the course marked on it. you will be expected to navigate yourself along the course. there will be three checkpoints along the route that you must report to. it is strongly advised that you arrange your own support crew to help you. having your own support crew will make it quicker for you to be picked up following retirement form the race. if you rely on us to pick you up, then there will be a delay in getting to you unless it’s an emergency. you will be expected to carry the following kit with you at all times : mobile phone, waterproof jacket and trousers, warm hat, gloves, sun cream, sun hat, emergency food, water bottles, whistle, foil blanket, supplied map and a compass. you will be expected to make your own travel arrangements after the finish. there is a good public bus service from the needles. ensure you have packed warm clothes and some money for the bus. registration : numbers will be presented on race day.
