Essar Chester Round the Walls Race - Essar Chester Chester Round The Walls

Essar and West Cheshire Athletic Club proudly present the 2018 Essar Chester Round the Walls race. The running race is one of the oldest in the country, with the Boxing Day event being run first in 1972 and now in its 47th year. The event starts and finishes at the Chester Racecourse (the Roodee) the oldest racecourse still used in England. The race follows the best path to appreciate the city walls and is approximately 6km in length. After leaving the Roodee, participants will run along the walls, over the Watergate and over the inner ring road and then descend down steps before crossing over the road at Northgate to ascend onto the walls again. Passing the iconic Eastgate Clock, runners continue from Roman to Medieval sections of the wall and descend to street level at the River Dee in order to finish back at the racecourse.
