The Dos and Don’ts of Running Your First Marathon

It’s that time of year when people are more determined than ever to get fit by taking on their first marathon ever, and with the London Marathon coming up in April, the people who’ve entered are thinking about their training programmes. A record total of 253, 930 people entered the ballot for the 2017 London Marathon, alone…and this number increases year-on-year. So if you’re one of those brave people who’ve decided to run your first marathon, then read on.

Hayley's Halfs

Over the course of 2016/2017, Hayley McNicholas (handicap 21.8) has set herself the 'Hayley's Halfs' challenge, where she is aiming to run in all of the  the major cities in the UK, in aid of the Claire House Children's Hospice. We caught up with her to hear about her aims and motivation and this is what she said:

London Fever!

We're about to start week 5 of the runbritain marathon training programmes and there are 12 weeks to go until 36,000 runners get together on Blackheath to set off on that 26.2 mile journey. I have been watching and listening to those at my club who are resolutely following their programmes, logging the miles in their diaries and, in general, loving every minute of it. London fever has hit the group as they run together, compare notes and tick off the key sessions and races during their build up. I'm jealous! For many years my running focused around the London Marathon and so January to April was all about preparing for that one day and those 42 kilometres. On a trip down memory lane I dug out my old training diaries.
