The organisers of the Ealing Half Marathon have announced that the 2018 Ealing Mini Mile will open for entry on Friday 1st Decemberand will for the first time incorporate a Family Mile

The Mini Mile and the Family Mile races will take place on Saturday 29th September and are set to inspire hundreds of young runners to get active and be part of a big weekend of sport in the West London borough.

This will be the second year that the Ealing Mini Mile takes place the day before the award-winning Ealing Half Marathon. It follows an extremely successful event in 2017 that saw 1,200 youngsters take part in a series of Mini Mile races on the Saturday afternoon, kicking off race weekend in true style.

The 2018 Ealing Mini Mile is open toyoung runners aged 6-16 years and a total of 1,500 places will be available. The advance notice of the opening of entries is expected to be of particular interest to local athletics clubs as well as to children of those already signed up to the 2018 Ealing Half Marathon. It is also hoped that the event will attract a large number of youngsters who have never taken part in a running event before.

The 2018 Family Mile is a fantastic chance for children aged five or under to take part in their own separate race along with an adult. A total of 400 placeswill be available, allowing for 200 children and 200 adults. The Family Mile is an exciting new addition to race day and promises to be popular with siblings of older children entering the Mini Mile as well as with allfamilies wanting to enjoy a big community event together.

For young runners of any age and ability, the races are a perfect opportunityto experience a large sporting event and the thrill of crossing the finish line. The course covers a one-mile route around Ealing’s Lammas Park and the spectator support is superb, really motivating the young runners as they make their way round and celebrating with them as they cross the finish line and receive their medals.

Places are expected to sell fast for the event, as they have in previous years, and anyone wishing to take part is encouraged to sign up as soon as possible afterregistration opens.

The Family Mile takes place at midday on Saturday 29th September and the Ealing Mini Mile takes place from 1pm, in waves according to age. All children in the Mini Mile and the Family Mile will receive a t-shirt, medal, chip timing and water on finishing. Adults taking part in the Family Mile will receive a medal.

Local independent Catholic girls’ school St Augustine’s Priory has been confirmed for the second consecutive year as the main sponsor for the 2018 Ealing Mini Mile.

Race Director Sandra Courtney commented, “We are delighted to announce that the 2018 Ealing Mini Mile and the very first Family Mile will shortly be open for entries. The Mini Mile is always a really popular part of race weekend and it is fantastic to see so many young runners of all ages and abilities wanting to get active and take part. The Family Mile is a great chance to open the event up to even more youngsters, which is very much in line with our commitment as a Community Interest Company to make sport and fitness available to all.

“Our thanks go to St Augustine’s Priory for their support as a sponsor once again. Entries to the Mini Mile and the Family Mile will open on 1st December, and we would recommend securing your places as soon as possible to make sure you are part of the fun next autumn. We are looking forward to welcoming our biggest ever turn-out of young runners at the 2018 event!”

This is an important community event for so many people and it is extremely exciting that this year it will be open to its largest number of participants, from pre-school children and their families through to primary school pupils and older teenagers. We are passionate about advocating health and fitness at St Augustine’s and a team of girls from the school will again be entering the Mini Mile. We are very much looking forward to being a part of race day.”
