Muddy running at the Area Cross-Country Championships

The Area Cross-Country Championships saw large numbers of runners trampling through the mud to the finish line in Pontefract, Leamington and at Parliament Hill.

The top men and women were Henry Pearce (handicap -5.0) and Pip Woolven (handicap -1.4) in the south, Emile Cairess (handicap -5.3) and Mhairi MacLennan (handicap -1.1)  in the north and Jack Gray (handicap -5.1) and Katie Holt (handicap -0.4) in the Midlands.

The weekend parkruns were busy up and down the country with the fastest runs coming from the Albert parkrun in Middlesborough for the men and Lytham Hall for the women.

Dominic Shaw (handicap -4.9) ran 14:49 at the Albert parkrun to record the fastest men's time in the UK . Hayley Carruthers (handicap -1.2) ran 16:47 and crossed the line first overall at the Lytham Hall parkrun where she recorded the quickest women’s time on Saturday
