Weekend update

Marc Scott Arizona 3k 7-36

Marc Scott was in scintilating form at the outdoor  Prickly Pear Invitational in Arizona where 12 athletes ran under 8 minutes over 3000m. Elsewhere, Elliot Giles continues to impress over 1500m with a PB  and Jamie Webb extends his winning streak over 800m.

Marc Scott (handicap -7.1) began 2021 in phenomenal style, taking on a strong field outdoors in Arizona over 3000m outdoors and winning in an excellent time of 7:36.08, a personal best. His controlled and flowing sub 55 second final lap augurs well for a European indoor medal in March. The time moves him to fourth in the 3000m UK all-time list behind only Sir Mo Farah (handicap -7.1), David Moorcroft and Brendan Foster. Video footage of his race available on this link.

At the Meeting Metz Moselle,  Elliot Giles (handicap -7.0)  stepped up in distance to the 1500m, clocking an indoor PB. Going head-to-head with a world-class field, Giles showed his quality to post a time of 3:37.61 behind world medallists Selemon Barega and Bethwell Birgen. In the men’s 800m, Guy Learmonth (handicap -6.5) produced another impressive display as he finished third in a time of 1:46.89, narrowly outside his indoor PB set in Glasgow last weekend.

There was a season best for Adelle Tracey  (handicap -2.2) in the women’s 800m as she won in 2:02.11 at the American Track League, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Closer to home at the 4J Studios Scottish Athletics meeting at the Emirates Arena, there was a Scottish U20 record) for Joe Ewing (handicap -5.3) over 1500m. The record, which has stood for almost 50 years to Frank Clement, was lowered to 3:47.98 just one week after his 800m SB of 1:49.86.

At the Czech Indoor Gala, Jamie Webb (handicap -4.8) was once again in PB form, lowering his best time over 800m indoors to 1:46.45. In the process, he captured his second win in five days following victory in Vienna a few days earlier.
