A change in government legislation regarding data protection called The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will be in place from 25th May 2018.

Athletics and running clubs will have to ensure that they are compliant with the new government regulations.

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies to any “data controllers” or “data processors”. Those are technical terms but, in essence, if you collect any personal data in running your club (which you will do if you have any members) then the GDPR will apply to you.

England Athletics has produced guidance for affiliated clubs and associations to help with identifying the key areas that they should be addressing as a result of the additional requirements arising from the Government's upcoming introduction of GDPR.

Detailed information was emailed to club secretaries last week (any club secretary not receiving information should check their details, in particular those pertinent to receiving emails, at www.englandathletics.org/myprofile).
