Weekend running update
The Diamond League in Birmingham showcased many of our finest athletes who are preparing for the World Athletics Championships in Doha in September. Elsewhere in the world of endurance running, Sarah McDonald clocked a sensational 1:59 at the Tipton BMC meeting and Jenny Nesbitt also impressed with a 15:30 5km at the same meeting. Charlie Hulson continued his winning streak at the Podium 5k in Lancashire.

Some of the running highlights included Lynsey Sharp (handicap -2.5) taking second in the 800m and Eilish McColgan (handicap -3.0) running a PB of 4:24.71 for third place in the mile. Elliot Giles (handicap -6.5) was another to impress in the 800m for third behind Ireland's winner Mark English (handicap -0.4). who stormed through in the home straight for a memorable victory.
Charlie Hulson (handicap -4.5) was a comfortable winner in 14:17 at the Podium 5K. Jip Vastenburg (handicap -0.5) ran an impressive 16:05 ahead of Lucy Crookes (handicap 0.3) in 16:27 with Steph Pennycook (handicap 0.2) running 16:31 for third place.
Sarah McDonald (handicap -2.5) broke the 2 minute barrier in the women’s 800m in a time of 1:59.91 at the Tipton BMC meeting. Jenny Nesbitt (handicap -1.3) posted a personal best in the 5000m with 15:30.95.
