Weekend update

Dewi Griffiths Swansea Half

Top quality racing took place over the weekend with Dewi Griffiths returning to winning ways in South Wales over 21k and Dan Jarvis making his 10k debut, a winning one, at the Aldi Chester 10k where Gemma Steel took the accolades for first female.

1600 runners finished the Llanelli Half Marathon where Dewi Griffiths (handicap -4.5) was back to winning ways in a rather modest 66:52 by his own standards. He was followed three minutes later by Luke Williams (handicap -3.4) in 69:53 PB.  Matthew Rees (handicap -3.3) of Swansea was third in 71:04.

Natasha Cockram (handicap 0.2) set a new  personal best of 75:27 to win the women's race. Carys Hughes (handicap 2.3) and Rachel Davies (handicap 3.4) completed the podium in 8035 and 83:36 respectively.

At the Aldi Chester 10k,  Dan Jarvis (handicap -5.4) made his 10k debut with an impressive  29:45 to take the win from in-form Omar Ahmed (handicap -6.1) of Birchfield Harriers in 30:15.

The winner of the women’s race was Charnwood stalwart, Gemma Steel (handicap 0.6) in 36:22 ahead of  Tessa McCormick (handicap 2.5) who ran 36:45 ahead of Joanna Marsden (handicap 2.4) in 37:09.

In the Saucony Cambridge Half Marathon, Cambridge and Coleridge dominated over the fast flat course that goes through University city. Jonathan Escalante-Phillips (handicap -5.3) took a comfortable victory in a PB of  65:36. Club mate, Chris Darling (handicap -4.1), was second in a PB of 67:10. Close behind was Alex Milne (handicap -4.6) in 67:25.

Victoria Knight (handicap 2.2) won the women's race in 74:45 ahead of Emma Hodson (handicap 3.4),  of Cambridge University Hare and Hounds in a time of 77:16.

M60 legend, Tommy Hughes (handicap -2.2) took another World Best over 3000m at the Athletics Ireland Indoor Championships with a mesmerising 9:41.24 as a 60 year old!
