Wilne 10k sold out in record time!

Wilne 10k

Entries for the 6th annual Wilne 10k, taking place on Sunday 4th September, sold out in record time this year.

The scenic, flat, fast and traffic-free road race, sponsored by Western Power Distribution, is incredibly popular with both elite and recreational runners alike, and provides an excellent course for people looking to chase a personal best time.

This year’s race, with a field of 1,100 runners, will take on the scenic route around the Church Wilne area based between the picturesque villages of Draycott and Sawley in Derby.

With a brand new Race Village in Brookfields Farm field featuring pre and post-race massage, retail stand, charity stall, refreshments, extensive prize structure and finisher goodies, there is set to be a fantastic atmosphere on race day.

This year’s official charity is Derbyshire Mind. Runners and spectators are encouraged to visit the charity stall on race day and show their support. Donations are gratefully received online at https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/wilne10k.

The Western Power Distribution Wilne 10k 2016 will be part of the inaugural Midlands Road Running League and again be hosting the Midland Masters AC 10k Championships and the Derbyshire Athletics 10k Championships.

With an exciting line-up of elite male and female runners for 2016, a number of exclusive prizes are up for grabs. Will the course record of 29.51 currently held by last year’s winner, Ryan Mcleod (handicap -3.7) of Tipton Harriers, be broken this time around? With a field of male elite runners including Alastair Watson (handical -4.9), Stuart Spencer (handicap -4.2) of Notts AC, Darren Deed (handicap -3.3) of Bedford & County AC, Josh Bull (handicap -3.6) of Derby Athletic Club and Danal Desta (handicap -4.1) of Swansea Harriers AC competing for the top spots, it looks to be an exciting and close race.

Can Jenny Blizard (handicap 3.2) of Rotherham Harriers and AC defend the 2015 female title and time of 37.03? With a top field of elite female runners including Ava Hutchinson (handicap 8.6) , London 2012 Olympian from Ireland, Sophie Cowper (handicap 0.1) of Lincoln Wellington Athletic Club, Bryony Proctor (handicap 0.6) of Aldershot Farnham & District and Julia Davis (handicap 3.9)  of Winchester & District AC, we expect to see a fierce competition for the top female spots on race day. Can the existing female course record of 33.02 held by Jessica Coulson (handicap 1.6) of Stockport Harriers and AC, set in 2014, be broken this year?

With additional prizes including 1st to 5k sponsored by Central Health, age category prizes sponsored by The Derby Runner and an exclusive prize for 1st Local Male and Female prizes donated by Wilsons Pharmacy, race day is set to crown a number of deserving winners and produce lots of PBs.

A special thank you to Brookfield Farm, all of the event's sponsors and our fantastic, hard-working volunteers without whom there would be no event.
